Nike have unquestionably had some of the biggest names in sport appearing in the advertising campaigns ranging from Cristiano Ronaldo to Serena Williams but now a student from Loughborough University has been given the chance to star in a Nike advertising campaign.

According to a report in the Leicester Mercury, a Loughborough University student emerged from hundreds of hopefuls to win the role of appearing in an advertising campaign for the clothing and footwear colossus, Nike. With so many sporting legends having appeared in Nike campaigns over the years, it is clearly quite an exciting prospect to be plucked from obscurity and placed in the limelight of a Nike advertising campaign. According to the report in the Leicester Mercury, Catherine Clark-Field was chosen by Nike because of the sheer enthusiasm that she exhibited and her clear passion for sport. These are both principles that are central to the Nike footwear and clothing ethos and she will front their 'Here I Am' advertising campaign which aims to encourage more people across the UK to take part in sport. Nike are not only a leading fashion and footwear icon but they are also actively play their part in creating a more proactive response to sport itself.

Nike – Reality Central
Nike are, of course, most famous for using a raft of famous sports stars to advertise their products but for their latest 'Here I Am' programme, they decided to forgo the galaxy of stars and use real people to get their message across. Nike footwear and clothing are amongst the most popular on the planet and this is unquestionably on the back of their celebrity endorsements but using real people to advertise their beliefs is also likely to yield dividends. The Nike campaign, which also has the backing of tennis star, Maria Sharapova, is aimed at getting women to take part in sport and speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Catherine Clark Field stated, “The Nike campaign can help by making women feel more comfortable wearing a sports kit and helping them start to get fit. The programme can also help make unknown athletes familiar to a wider audience and improve the understanding of why they do it.”

Nike – Thinking about the Future of British Sport
The Nike campaign aimed at encouraging more women to become actively involved in various sports is a very important endeavour and it is hoped that it will have positive ramifications for the future of British sport. Speaking to the Leicester Mercury about the Nike 'Here I Am' campaign, marathon runner, Paula Radcliffe, states, “Encouraging young women to continue sport participation is vital if we want to see young UK talent compete at the highest level and prove we have what it takes to be world class athletes.”
