Under Armour

American sportswear giant Under Armour has been a big player stateside since the early 2000s, having established itself as a serious competitor to big names like Nike and Reebok by emphasising a performance-first approach to materials and design.

Under Armour came about when founder Kevin Plank, a fullback at the University of Maryland, lost patience with having to change out of sweat-soaked t-shirts and he decided to take matters into his own hands by developing a t-shirt with moisture-wicking synthetic fabrics. The rest, as they say, is history.

Under Armour’s dedication to performance enhancing technological innovation quickly marked it out as a sportswear brand to take seriously, and the upwardly mobile brand started to produce outfits for a host of leading US sporting franchises. These days, it’s a dominant player in the sportswear industry and equally ubiquitous in gyms and major sporting arenas across the globe.
