Founded in 1890 by Joseph William Foster,
Reebok started life under
the name 'J.W Foster and Sons' after
the idea to create a novelty spiked running shoe.
The shoes quickly took off and the company began to distribute shoes all over the UK. By 1924, Foster's designs were seen on the feet of athletes in the summer Olympics.
In 1958 the founder’s grandsons, Joe and Jeff Foster, decided to re-brand the company with the name ‘Reebok’, after the Afrikaans name for the speedy grey rhebok, a type of antelope. Fast forward to the 1980s, and Reebok dropped the very first edition of a
leather running shoe soon to be known as the Classic.
Massively popular, the Reebok Classic became a firm favourite worldwide because of its simplistic and slimline silhouette. Over the years since its release, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Travi$ Scott and Ink Kid have all collaborated with Reebok to put their own twist on the Classic.
With perforated details to the toe box and sidewall, and an upper construced of smooth leather, the Reebok Classic sits on a firm midsole and rubber outsole for a combination of comfort and support. Finsihed off with matching tonal laces, you can always spot a Classic thanks to the Reebok branding on the tongue and to the heel.
