Outside of the Rihanna-led Fenty line, Puma has been playing second fiddle to the likes of Nike, adidas, Vans and Converse in the streets in recent years. Outside of timeless models like the Basket or Bball, new designs like the TSUGI – even innovations like the JAMMING – have fallen short in comparison to competitors’ marquee models. But Puma have never been ones for following the crowd.

With the Thunder, PUMA are right back in the race. Their intro into to the chunky sneaker phenomenon went down a storm; the Thunder Spectra was lusted after across social media since early images of the sneaker leaked. Now sold out, you can get your hands on the Spectra as long as you’re happy paying about 150% of the original retail price.

Modelled by Krept and Konan, the Thunder Electric is everything a dad-shoe fan wants, with a more 90’s inspired paint job than the Spectra. Both colourways feature a layered, speckled midsole beneath an upper that mixes mesh with textured leathers. Metallic hits to the collar give a bit of understated futurism to the exaggerated 90’s aesthetic

The Electric Black colourway features white mesh black and grey leathers with orange accents and a gum outsole. The Grey/violet is along similar lines, utilising black and grey leathers with a blue sock liner and lace loops, finished with red outlines to the PUMA side stripe.

We caught up with Krept and Konan at Crepes and Cones, the pair’s first foray into the restaurant trade, to talk PUMA and the power of doing your own thing.

Dropping at 8:00AM BST on Thursday 21st, the Thunder is a true return to form – make sure you’re at the front of the line or you’ll miss out. Get yours here
