Featuring huge drops, re-releases and new iterations of sneakers from the globe’s biggest brands, 2017 has been a massive year for the world of sneakers.

In celebration, we’re reminiscing and taking a look back at some of the greatest drops of the year. Check them out :

Nike Air Max 97 ‘Silver Bullet’

The retro re-release of the year, the Air Max 97 OG ‘Silver Bullet’ dropped back in April, 20 years after its original release, to the delight of Nike fans across the globe.

Inspired by Japanese bullet trains, this unique sneak first hit the shelves back in 1997 with a streamlined, silver colourway that was way ahead of its time.

A lightweight running silhouette with a singular, full length Max Air cushioning across the length of the sole, the Silver Bullet is one of Nike’s most recognisable Air Max designs – and happened to also be one of the biggest selling silhouettes of 2017.

adidas Originals Prophere

Unveiled to the world on December 4th in an event headlined by Fredo and live-streamed between London, Paris and Berlin, the Prophere is a brand new silhouette from adidas Originals – paying homage to the uncompromising fashion of the 90’s.

Retro releases from the 90’s have been a major trend this year, but it’s the way the Prophere mixes 90’s influence with modern details that makes this design something to get excited about.

With another much-anticipated drop coming soon, you can read more about it here.

Nike Air Force 1

2017 has been a big year for Air Force. With countless editions of the iconic silhouette released, we’re taking a look at two of the greatest that Nike have brought us.

Black Pack

A shoe that has inspired creativity in pursuits as diverse as architecture and hip-hop, it’s become synonymous with urban culture, and endures not only as one of the best Basketball sneakers ever designed, but as one of the most popular sneakers ever sold. Now in its 4th decade, the influence of the Air Force 1 shows no sign of slowing down.

Celebrating the street culture it has become such a large part of, we linked up with AJ Tracey back in November to shoot the Nike Air Force 1 Black Pack.

Roc-A-Fella

The Air Force 1 Roc-A-Fella first released back in 2004 to a run of less than 50 pairs if rumours are to be believed. The re-release of this grail debuted at Complex Con at the start of November, alongside 4 other high-profile takes on the silhouette.

With its first ever official release on 30th November, the Nike Air Force 1 Roc-A-Fella brought two street icons together for a collaboration that is as special to the Roc’s founding fathers as it is to fans of the silhouette.

adidas Original EQT 93/17

Updating the EQT Running Support model released back in 1993, the 93/17 uses adi’s modern innovation to make a contemporary take on the 90’s runner.

This particular silhouette landed at Footasylum back in August to a huge reception – and its clear to see why. Check out the full range of adidas Original EQT, right here.

Vans x The North Face

After a hugely successful joint venture two years ago, Vans and The North Face came together once again to produce another co-branded collection - taking key pieces in both footwear and apparel and turning them into cold weather wardrobe essentials.

Quickly becoming one of the fastest selling collabs Footasylum has seen, its easy to see why this collection has made our top sneakers of 2017. Check out the full story here.

adidas Originals Tennis HU

Initially dropped back in August, The PW Tennis HU first arrived as a brand-new silhouette rather than an iteration of an Adidas classic – the shoe features a mesh sock-like upper with perforated 3-stripe branding, and the Pharrell Williams Equality Branding to the heel. A textured EVA midsole matches the pattern of the mesh upper, finishing off the minimal aesthetic.

Air Jordan 4 Pure Money

An all-time favourite silhouette, the Air Jordan 4 is one of Jordan Brand’s most popular trainers. First launched back in May, these sneaks feature a crisp all-white leather upper, with contrasting silver detailing to Jumpman logo, tongue, eyelets and lace tips channelling those ‘Pure Money’ vibes.

A huge hit with Jordan fans when they dropped, you can read all about them here.

Nike Air Max Jewell

This drop saw Nike release the second ever women’s only Air Max silhouette - a smooth sneak with a Flyknit upper, available in two colourways.

Although officially a women’s only release, the reveal of the Jewell proved popular with Nike fans, and even saw interest from guys wanting to cop these creps for their own collection.
One of the hottest women’s releases of this year, you can read more about this much loved sneak, right here.
