A Big Year for Puma and Puma Suede

A Big Year for Puma and Puma Suede

The latest news from sport giant Puma is that they’re withdrawing their corporate sponsorship from European rugby, which means the Irish Rugby Union have been left looking for a new kit provider.

Puma will continue to supply kit throughout the 2013-14 European rugby season, but after this they will leave the field to competing sportswear brands such as Macron, who kit out rival Scotland’s rugby team.

Puma’s Sports Associations

Puma has a long history of being associated with some of the biggest names in professional sports, which has certainly had an impact on the popularity of their mainstream trainers, such as the Puma Suede.

Puma shoes are worn by Usain Bolt and Cesc Fabregas, and were favoured by the Irish Rugby Football Union until the brand’s announcement that it would be cutting back its product range and all less lucrative sports deals.

Puma fans who are worried about what this will mean for their favourite Puma shoes and sportswear can rest assured that long time favourites, such as the extensive range of Puma Suede classic and eco trainers, will remain on the shelves.

45 Years for Puma Suede

As well as having had strong sports associations, Puma sneakers are also a popular choice for fashion enthusiasts and celebrities such as Travie McCoy. Puma shoes show regularly on some of the world’s major catwalks and there were no less than eight new Puma Suede styles for FW12 alone, in addition to the Puma Suede lowtops which were handmade in Japan in October 2012 to celebrate the sneaker’s 45th anniversary.

The fact that Puma Suede has been around for 45 years is testament to the enduring quality of this iconic brand, and Puma will certainly be marking it in style. A new Puma Suede shoe is set for release later this year – dubbed ‘Future Suede’ it features many of the original design features of the original Suede but is lighter and features some seriously forward thinking style tweaks, such as a neoprene tongue and varnish tonal nylon.
