But there’s more to the festival scene than Glasto, Creamfields and Leeds/Reading. In fact, there are well more than 300 music festivals that hit the UK every year, with even more huge events across Europe and the US. That’s a lot of festivals.
If a Yeezy headline act isn’t your thing, there are some incredible festivals out there that might be well up your street. We’ve put together some of our fave festivals that you might not have heard of. Check ‘em out.
Where? Winchester, Hampshire
When? 13th – 16th August 2015
How much? £155 for entry
Check out that trailer. BoomTown is mad.
Starting in 2009, it’s the UK’s wildest independent festival, bringing together ravers and creatives from all over the globe for four days of hard partying and wicked live acts. Basically a hyped-up, crazy version of a village fair, BoomTown is split into themed areas that take festival entertainment to next levels.
There’s something for every musical mindset, with huge names from the worlds of ska, reggae, punk, jungle and techno. This year’s line up includes Stephen Marley, Shy FX, Less Than Jake and so many more we could go on forever. Just check it out yourself, yeah?
If you fancy hitting up Croatia for a four day beach rave with heavy tunes, Dimensions Festival is where it’s at.
Dimensions’ main stages include a 2000 year old Roman amphitheatre (how sick is that?!) and a 19th century abandoned fort, all alongside an incredible beach with crystal clear water. And if bustin’ a move on dry land isn’t your thing, there are plenty of boat parties to keep you happy.
This year’s line up includes some big names in the world of EDM, D&B, reggae and more with a separate opening party from Four Tet, Little Dragon and Floating Points. There’s even an appearance from jazz/hip-hop gang BADBADNOTGOOD, who are definitely worth a listen if that’s your vibe.
Detonate deserves well more hype than it receives, with a line up that’s so sick it needs rushing to A+E.
With a heavy hip hop influence, there are names on this list that are guaranteed drop a dope live set. Skepta, Sub Focus and Shy FX are some highlights from the main stage, with Kano and Mike Skinner taking over another.
The icing on this cake of hip hop madness is the 2015 headliner, Nas, who’ll be performing the whole of his classic Illmatic album in full. It’s not every day you get to hear one of the most iconic LPs in hip hop history played live. Don’t miss out.
As if anyone needs an excuse to go to Amsterdam, Open Air gives you one anyway.
Hosted in the fields of Gaasperpark, the festival combines everything about Amsterdam’s nightlife into one unforgettable two day jam. Last year’s event was during some of the best sun you can get, and it doesn’t get more chilled than listening to some tuneage while you’re tanning it up.
With DJs and live acts from all over the world hitting the stage this year, names to watch out for include house badman Shadow Child, Black Coffee’s urban vibes and the crazy electronic sounds of Zeds Dead.
Head over to the Open Air website to see the full line up and check out pictures and videos from 2014’s big weekender.
5. FYF fest
Where? South Los Angeles, California
When? 22nd – 23rd August 2015
How much? £120 for entry
If you’ve got the dollar to go splashing on a plane ticket to LA, you should grab yourself ticket for FYF Fest while you’re at it.
Started by an 18 year old who was bored back in 2004, the festival’s grown to become one of the most exciting gigs in the US calendar. It’s a two day mashup of the best acts in hip hop, R&B, indie and more, with a lineup that’s enough to make your mouth water.
Frank Ocean and Morrissey are this year’s headliners, with grimy Sacramento hip hop group Death Grips showing their faces, as well as UK indie poster boys, Bloc Party. It’s pricey one for peeps over in Britain, but you know it’d be worth every penny.
Get on the FYF site for tickets and more, or if you’re not a multi-millionaire, you can just look at the pretty pictures and imagine you’re there like we’re doing right now!
