Nike Canada has signed a sponsorship deal for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

An announcement in August confirmed that Nike Canada has become the latest sponsor of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Nike was always a strong contender as a sponsor because of its enormous involvement with a wide range of sports. The 2010 Olympics has a range of sponsors and the organising committee have deliberately chosen a number of Canadian-based companies to support the event.

Nike and Olympic Sponsorship

Nike Canada will be sponsoring the shirts of the Canadian Hockey team, who have high hopes of a medal in the games. With ice hockey seen by many as being one of Canada’s national sports, the announcement of the sponsor for the Olympic shirts has been long-awaited and so it was with delight that Canada Hockey, Olympic and Paralympic organisers and Nike Canada itself unveiled the shirts. As regular gold medallists in ice-hockey, both the teams and their supporters anticipate great crowds as they play on home ice. The Nike Canada Olympic sponsorship also includes:

  • Replica hockey shirts for fans
  • Association with the Canadian teams at 2010 and the London 2012 Olympics
  • Marketing and sales rights for the 2010 Winter Olympics
  • Financial investment in the games

Nike is no stranger to Olympic sponsorship, but is probably better known for its equipment, clothing and footwear for summer games events rather than winter sports. This sponsorship gives Nike the opportunity to increase its profile in Canada with particular reference to ice hockey and other winter pursuits.

Nike Follows Progress

Nike is now closely following the progress of the Canadian ice-hockey team as it prepares ahead of the 2010 games. As with all Olympic events, positions in the team are hotly contested and as ice-hockey is a highly competitive and aggressive sport, you can expect the preparation to be the same. Nike fans and ice-hockey fans alike can also follow the preparation from Nike’s blog site, where you can see video and comment on how the team is shaping up.
