Converse Aim to Hit the Musical Heights

Converse have a well earned reputation for being a hip and funky brand that has stood the test of time but, thanks to some slick manoeuvring, kept ahead of the crowd and taken its classic high tops, low tops and clothing to a new level.

Converse gear has been almost universally popular with muses throughout the decades with many a top artist still wearing their familiar Converse footwear on stage. It’s a long tradition that has grown out of the 1950s when Converse were a sporting brand mostly worn by children and teens to the 1970s when US punk icons were never without their Converse High Tops. And it has lasted through the years with top acts still finding comfort in the classic Converse style.

This musical link between the Converse brand is being emphasised through a unique collaboration that sees Converse linking up with three great artists from different musical genres. The aim is to produce three great but very different versions of the same track which will be launched through the Converse website in July. Converse has brought together Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Kid Cudi to create the new track,

The artists pride themselves on their unique and different styles:

  • Bethany Cosentino is a Los Angeles native with a brief stay in Brooklyn, and Best Coast’s influences reflect just that, West Coast vibe meets East Coast ‘60s girl group.
  • Kid Cudi is a Brooklyn based rapper from Cleveland in the US whose debut single, “Day ‘n’ Nite,” became an online favourite in 2008. Born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi in suburban Cleveland, his career took off after he moved to Brooklyn and became affiliated with Fool’s Gold.
  • Rostam Batmanglij is the multi-instrumentalist/vocalist in Vampire Weekend. He is one of the band’s songwriters, and also the band’s producer.

The track will be available to hear and to download from the Converse website from July and you can also see three exclusive videos all about the artists and the project.
